According to Jez Langhorn of McDonald’s, they want to give young recruits their first assignments to help them kick-start their career, and we know that they still need to polish their skills. Apprentices have the appetite and enthusiasm to learn. So, what apprentices should do is stop worrying about their experience and work on their skills.

As an apprentice, the first thing required from you is your passion for the company or industry you have chosen. After all, you are going to train to understand their systems and processes. So, you must have a genuine interest and passion to work hard for the company.

Actually, employers want to see similar traits and characteristics in their potential apprentices irrespective of the job roles. These qualities include genuine interest, reliability, punctuality, and a sense of commitment to learning on the job.

You should be able to explain why you want to be chosen for an apprenticeship. Your goal shouldn’t be to be paid and start your career. Therefore, you should do your research about the company and what the program involves.

Even if you have no on-the-job experience, keep in mind that many employers may also be interested in knowing if you have done any voluntary work, especially if this type of assignment was related to the type of work you are going to do in the company.

While composing your application, you should re-check the job description section. In this section, you should mention the skills and qualities you may have in addition to your experience.

Besides, your application should also mention any digital expertise you may have. For instance, if you know how to use a computer and different software programs, make sure you mention these in your application. This will be greatly helpful if you are going to apply for an apprenticeship in the mobile and telecom industry.

Since the competition is tough, employers are looking for the best apprentice for their companies. So, what you need to do is check out the website of the company and look for a section that talks about the company’s people or values.

Most companies look for candidates with the right attitude, qualities, patience, and willingness to work hard. These candidates have the potential to stand out from the crowd and deliver great performances.

Since an apprenticeship takes a minimum of 12 months, you have to be eager dedicated, and willing to work hard until your apprenticeship is complete. And this is what an employer wants from you.

In short, these are just some of the qualities that employers look for in potential apprentices before making recruitment decisions. So, you may want to keep these pointers in mind before applying for your desired apprenticeship.
