A Day of a Busy Dental Nurse

If you want to become a dental nurse, you need to carry out several duties on a daily basis. Contrary to popular belief, you won’t just pass surgical instruments to your dentist, and there is more to this role than this. Let’s find out what your role will entail. 

When you arrive

You will prepare the required documents and sterilize the necessary surgical equipment in the morning. Plus, you will grab your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks, gloves, and visors.

Guiding the first patient

You will direct the first patient to the surgery room, check their history, give them safety glasses, and put a bib on their outfits. And this is how you will prepare the patients for surgery. 

During the day

You will use a disinfectant to wipe the dental chair between patients. Plus, you will put all the instruments into a specific “dirty container” for sterilization. Afterward, you will have your lunch during the lunch break. 

You will assist your dentist in the afternoon while they see their patients one by one. 

At the end of the day

You will close your surgeries at the end of the day, which involves flushing the aspirator line and the waterline of the dental chair with disinfectant. Afterward, you will wipe down visible surfaces, turn off the equipment, and empty the bins. And then you are free to go home. 

So, you can see that dental nurse have a pretty busy day at the dentist. If you want to be a nurse, you should be mentally prepared for the job’s time and effort.
