According to the Medscape Nurse Career Satisfaction Report for 2016, most nurses have almost no regrets about their career choices. The survey involved 10,026 licensed practical nurses (LPNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), and Registered Nurses (RNs). Let’s find out what they have to say.
LPNs said that the best thing about their profession is the relationship with their patients and the gratitude. RNs noted that they liked their jobs, while CNSs and CRNAs believed their profession and skills were their real reward.
Only 2% of nurses career choice said they were in this profession for money. On the other hand, 8% of CNAs believed that money was a factor. “Noting” was the answer from 11% of nurses when they were asked about the least satisfactory element in their jobs.
Some nurses expressed their frustration due to the lack of support, overwhelming workload, payer denials, oversight, excessive regulations, and insufficient staff and other resources.
As far as negative feedback is concerned, most nurses said that their managers were not competent, supportive, appreciative, and communicative. Apart from this, they said that physicians were rude, bullying, and disrespectful.
In short, most nurses career choice said that they were not regretful of their career choices. So, we can say that nursing is a good career choice for most people interested in this profession.
